Selecting Hardware Fastening Equipment

The fastening process involves two key elements: the fasteners (eyelets, grommets, rivets, snap fasteners, etc.) and the fastening equipment that performs the setting operation. The proper selection and tooling of the machine that performs the setting operation is as crucial to efficient production as the choice of the fastener itself. The selection of the machine depends directly upon the production facility, volume, and assembly requirements.

The fundamental difference between the various models of fastening machines is their capacity limitation or power rating, and the range of fastener sizes that they are equipped to handle and set. Special machine modifications, such as tools and fixtures, can be made in standard machines to adapt them to special assembly requirements.

Some machines are available with special arms, multiple adjustable center heads, and feed guides. The larger, more sophisticated machines are electrically powered and are available with one or more roadways. These models can be equipped with a variety of accessories; such as, right or left mounted roadways, special tooling and special compensators which help eliminate breakage of fragile or variable thickness material. Some models are available in either foot power, electric, or pneumatic. Electric and pneumatic machines can be furnished with safety devices to protect the operator. Many machines can be furnished in bench models or mounted on a stand.

Hand and Foot Power

These machines are ideal for use in shops where production is not large, or to perform prototype work in the experimental and design departments of large plants. Foot powered models can be ordered with or without automatic feed. The setting or cutting dies are quickly interchangeable and the quality of work is comparable to work produced on our larger automatic machines at a fraction of the cost

Pneumatic

The pneumatic models help to increase production on a larger scale and provide quiet easy operation, reducing worker fatigue. Pneumatic models are equipped complete with a filter, lubricator, regulator, gauge and air hose with standard coupling necessary to connect to an air supply. Setting speed can be adjusted to help eliminate breakage of fragile or variable thickness material. These machines can be furnished in hand feed or fully automatic models in bench stand models.

Electric

Electric models, like the pneumatic, also help to increase production on a larger scale, and reduce worker fatigue. The operator places the work in position and presses the foot switch, which activates the machine. They are designed and manufactured to give long, trouble free service under the most demanding usage with minimum maintenance, and are equipped with a standard 115-volt motor, but can also be furnished with a 220-volt motor.
